cooler blocked externally? overfilled with oil will also cause an overheat
collapsed cooler hose?

mud on the radiator for the g/box? that is how mine over heated and also the thermostat had very usted contacts that fell appart as soon as i touched them so possibly a new thermostat thingy? very easy thing to fit. a genuine 5 min job.

I would expect it is a fault, I have never seen my gearbox temp light come on apart from when I had a fault. However that was a very simple fault, the wires from the thermostat were frayed where they rubbed against a power steering pipe and occassionaly the warning light would come on when they rubbed together. After fixing them the light has never come on.
