Fitted pics yes i added the steel along the top and have drilled through the sills i havnt finished them yet as i still need to finish the ends and drill the fixing holes in the back and another bolt hole through the chasis, i didnt want to weld them on as i wanted to remove them and finish them off at a later date :)

Hi chaps, I've got a couple of questions if thats ok.

I've noticed a few small differences between your two designs, Greedy's used plates bolted to the chassis to mount his sliders obviously but he also uses flat plate in the same shape as the sill. Does this replace the sill or just but up to it? I can see what look like a couple of fittings along the length of the slider, have you just bolted them to the existing sill?

If you've left the sill in place, how much more difficult do you think it would be to include a new sill in the design or would you not bother? Were your sills in good nick?

I've been toying with the idea of copying a mates box section sills for a while and I'm trying to think how i could merge the two designs. He's used 600x1200 mm box (I think), they almost come down to the same level as the chassis rails and stand up to alsorts of abuse. There's no tree pushers on them however and without the original plastics covering the sill, there is quite a big empty space as you look at the truck from the side.
Not mega important I know but I reckon they could look better.

I can weld, after a fashion, and can draw and cut reliably but I've never tackled a project of this size so I wondered if I could ask your opinion.

What would you do? I want to replace my tatty sills with somthing strong, have tree pushers attached and hopefully get the neat, well finished look you guys have achived.

Any ideas or questions, advice will be gladly recieved. I'm not going to tackle this until I've got everything on paper/PC and got a clear plan and design. I'm murder for doing things half cocked and ending up with somthing I'm not happy with first time and dont want this project to go that way.

Cheers lads, Stu.

Hi Stu

Yes mine just bolt to the existing sill with a brace bar to the chassis where the gearbox cross member bolts are. I cant really comment on replacing the sill as mine where fine (i did need to plate a small hole in the rear both sides). I have read of people replaceing the sills with box section might be better to post in disco section and then just add bosses tree slider instuctions to them?

Good luck with it and dont forget the pictures  ;)

i would make the sliders and bolt them on. if you do replace the sill and incorperate a slider then it is the car that gets [!Expletive Deleted!]. the sliders are effectiveley a sacrificial part. or thats how i look at it anyway. lots of people have replaced the sills and put some tubing along the side for tree sliders. you can do both, weld on a new sill, make these sliders and weld them on, but like i say its an awfull lot of metal to grind off if something came a croppa. totally up to you stu.
it is nice to know that people are taking an interest in the design.

you will all be seing just how much punishment these slider can take very soon;)

let me know how it all goes chaps

Very informative guide Boss. this is very similar to what i was planning to make to go on my 5 door disco, sure that there would not be too much of a difference, just with the gaps for the door pillars.

would it work if i copyed the pattern that is on the plastic sills, to allow for the door pillars?

rich, i forget! i would have thought that it would be do'able that way. the plastic sill things that were on mine were fubar but i would sefinatley recomend using them to copy the bolt pattern and make up a "c" section to bolt it around the sill. like i have said welding to the chassis isnt a perticularly good idea especially on the back, i hung up on some rocks at tixover because of that

cheers Boss, i will defo try copy the bolt pattern of my plastic sills, the bottom of them is knacked but the bolts/screws are still fine.

I made some too for a disco and a defender.

click here for the disco version thread (may have to register)

Cheers david that is a good option also, I do prefer the box section as a tree slider rather than the tube, but i might be able to get some tube cheep so that has potential. Use the design for the rock sliders from Boss, and maybe the tubular tree sliders on after, hummm.

glad you found it of help , and sorry if you had to register but its in a non public area of the forum, and I assumed that everybody wouldnt find it to challenging to do.

we went for tube as we found it easier and prefered the look of the finished article but its down to your own preference. We have made a few up so far, for Discos and Defender90 and have a few more requests for sets including rangerover now.

It started as a bit of fun, but peeps seem to want them.
