Had a bad day today -- Started off getting the disco to run better, Now wont run at all :evil:
Had to replace the dizzy so wound the engine to TDC and located no 1 plug ?? Standing infront of the car looking at the engine ( did a lot of that today :roll: ) is it the front right hand side plug ?? I have a spark, compression, and loads of fuel, but she wont run :x Im kinda at a wits end what to do next unless i have timed her up wrong :doh:

Note to self --- Buy a haynes manual :lol:
Am i right in saying that if its on Tdc then it can only be on no1 cylinder ??

Sorry I got carried away with somthing else and just hit the post button, anyway it's the cylinder arrangment.
To time it up properly it's got to be on TDC on no1 pot. Then line up the rotor arm near to no1 post on the cap before dropping in the distributor. Don't forget to allow for the arm moving when dizzy drive slots into the skew gear.

The crank will be at TDC for No1 and for another (I don't remember the firing order) but the crank turns twice for the dizzy's once, so You could be 180 degrees out on the dizzy.
You really need a Haynes because the lead routing is also important, you need to separate leads 5 & 7 with lead 3, cross arcing from 5 to 7 will damage the engine.

Im kinda stumped now, i have replaced the dizzy, cap, rotor arm, ignition amplifier, cleaned the plugs and checked they are sparking, there is fuel on um also, tried warming the plugs first, also a sniff of easy start I also put all the old parts back on and changed 1 item at a time
Just spins over with out even a hint of firing :'(

Take all the leads off, then try No.1 lead across the other side of the dizzy, ie 4 leads later (or earlier) and give it a quick wind.
If it coughs then you were 180 degrees out.
The other way is to look inside the rocker cover and see if the rockers for No.1 are rocking, but I don't find that conclusive sometimes, you may need to turn the engine to see anything.

1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 is the firing order ;)

yep does sound 180 deg out so it will be firing on the wrong stroke. alan......

:oops: Yep it was 180 out :oops: Oh well we live n learn :lol:
Will be having a t cut n hoover next dry day, as shes up for sale , simply as i done less than 2000 miles last year :(
