Title: Tyre rub
Post by: 2 the max on October 16, 2009, 10:12:41
Why are my (standard size) greenway macho mud tyres rubbing on full lock on my mk1 discovery? I didnt think fitting this size mud tyres would require spacers? They are 235/70/16 if i remember rightly...same size as the standard road going spare tyre.

could be a couple of things

i would jump at that isnt the origional size to start with....only im not sure. also the side lugs are alot bigger. a better way to sort it might be fitting wheels with a bigger off-set on them. £50 ea from paddocks???

If you look round the swivle thers a stop bolt thing, undo this a bit on the opesit side a bit at a time to stop your wheel rubing on the radius arm. I think you need about an inch between your tyre and radius arm

you have 2 standard tyer sizes on a disco   205 and 235 now all depends what it came off the line with its just a mater of adjustind your stearing stops looks like a bolt that does nothing on the back of your swivels you ajust the oposite if the r/hs rubbing adjust the left and visa versa

I suspect that some mud tyres are slightly larger than their posted dimensions. I know my Insa Turbo Dakars rub slightly on full left lock, while I never had a problem with the BFG A/Ts before them. It's most likely the knobbly bits at the edges of the tread, which are more pronounced than on A/Ts.

the 235 in the tyre size is actually the nominal tread width and can be anything up to 15 mm more than the actual figure.

My Macho's do the same.

If you put one alongside an AT version of the same size then you will see that they are indeed larger diameter!

Its down to the treadblocks and the fact they are a remould, so they are on top of the original carcass so to speak.
