The pinion has been wining for too long now, so bit the bullet and ordered new bearings crush seal and oil seal.
Reading up and it's doesn't look too bad and it's not really a black art... Should have it done on Thurday just in case I need special delivery parts for Friday.
If I get a chance I'll take a few picks for a write up.

Hope it goes OK...

not too bad
But not sure which one you have thats got a crush sleeve in :? - there are some about, but generally older
should look similar to this:

the ones I have worked on used shims in a D30 (in the picture), crush sleeve in a D35:

I've ordered all the parts from from Lighthouse after a good chat with them. It's a D30 on a ZG so I'm taking his word for it they are the right parts. 30 in lb on the pinion after the crush sleeve initially goes.

take it easy and keep checking the rolling resistance
and yes there is a good mix up crush and shim d30s out there vin no is critical for parts ordering

All done a couple of weeks ago, and dead easy. Made a 'special tool' up for holding the yoke (I've a XJ yoke and prop on) for torquing it up. Most difficult bit was grinding off the inner bearing without touching the pinion, but that only took 10 minutes.
Quite up front now for the first time in a long time :D

Excellent
my special tool is a huge set of sthilsons
-
2m of 5x50mm plate with a couple of holes drilled seemed to do the job.
-
i hope its all fine for you 30 in lbs is a bit tightish if thats your rolling torque but a steady run in will always help

Just put 1000 miles on it running around scotland last week if that's what you mean by a gentle run in ;)
