Not done it myself but it seems to be a very common upgrade and as far as I'm aware it is basically a straight swap.

Done it (several years ago, mind) - and physically its a straight swap.
There are several ancillary issues you need to deal with, though:
* The speedo is now electronic, not mechanical - so the speedo-head is wrong (or you need to guddle with transfer boxes)
* The reverse-connector is different, but has the same basic operation
* The mount is different, and needs the matching gearbox crossmember

well thankyou for the replies, one thing i forgot to say was,its actually my range rover im doing it in,because the engine n box was origially out of a disco,i know they are the same,so the speedo is not a problem,i'll get round it some how, thanks

Bolting it to the engine is the esy bit, you need the later crossmemeber IIRC but the RRC and Disco have the same chassis.
Are you keeping the old T-box? if so then handbrake, speedo etc are not a bit problem. If you get it with the reverse switch then a bit of soldering is all that's required.
IIRC the stick comes up in the same place though, but R380s were factory fit on 300series/soft dash.
