Today’s drivers suffer without high-tech systems (http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/01/11/todays-drivers-suffer-without-high-tech-systems/)
Wonder how drivers of landies would have got on since they don't have ABS, EBD, ESP, etc. etc.
-
Having one vehicle without all of that (well it has got ABS...but..) and one with everything. The difference is ...
You can't tell how fast you are going in the one with all the whizz bang toys. You DRIVE the other one :-) Having said that I still take some corners faster in the Discovery than I do in the RR because I can feel the corner in the Discovery :-)
Now..when I get the next one (black badge anyone?) I'll no doubt be glad of all said technology to keep it ON the black stuff :-)

<giggle>
The difference is that my RR is nothing like my Discovery - so I can't get confused :-)
I know to knock up the height (if required), switch off DSC (if in the slop) and flick the low box switch (if required) or the HDC switch (if required).
In the Disco - shove little lever to the left, and back if required ;-)
DSC is fairly amazing - and only designed for the road! If you use it offroad, it detects wheel slip, brakes and reduces the effect of the loud pedal to help you regain control *on the road*. Offroad of course we don't want our power cut - so we disable said system. Of course I am still in awe of the HDC which won't engage (light on - no system activity tho!) if you are not on a hill ;-) A simple check - but something they thought about in the RR, but not in the Freelander.....oddly.
Oh and it even works out what gear you should be in if you leave it in Automatic mode (as opposed to manual mode) - drop off a descent and it knows 1st is required! Still not 100% trustworthy of it tho ;-)

Wrong
a black oval was standard with any series or 90/110 before defender. and is on both the l322 4.2 sc V8 and the Range rover Sport 4.2sc v8 - oh and the badges are doing a brisk trade on eblag already. Don't do it Neil - its not a nice engine in a 322.

If my maths have'nt let me down that'll be 4 on the drive.
:shock:

when i was learning to drive (within the last year or so) i drive my instructors astra (loaded with toys), my mums 1997 rover 200 (no toys) and our 110.
i prefer the 110 the most as you get the most real driving experience, mums car wasnt too bad and the astra was horrible - it didnt feel like you were actually driving it, merely inputting into a computer steering and throttle settings.... :shock:

Well you know, a primary colour, or shade thereof, is one of the dearest to reproduce ;)
