I plan to replace the gear box oil in my 93 Disco with Dextron ATF as it has normal EP90 in it at the moment. Has anyone tried using a garden spray pump to fill the box instead of trying the daft bit of plastic tube that comes on the ATF bottle???

I got a UMETA 1 Litre Oil and Fluid Transfer Pump from Difflock (http://www.difflock.com) when I did my oil changes (gearbox & transfer box).
Considering where the filler holes are, I found it very useful!

I did it once using an old washing-up liquid bottle, suitably cleaned. Fill with a funnel then squirt; repeat many times. It took quite a while, so I got an oil syringe, which makes life much easier altogether.
This sort of thing:
Machine Mart Oil Suction Gun (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=051710190)
Screwfix Oil Suction Gun (http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/sea/searchresults.jsp;jsessionid=MCKEEYBUUX3UDCJO2C1SIIQ?_dyncharset=UTF-8&q=oil+gun&x=10&y=10&n=&pn=1&pd=1&pi=1&cn=1&cd=1)

You can make one from an old mechanical fuel pump (think Ford, not Rover).

I ended up going the machine mart way. One with Ep90 and the other with ATF. It makes life nice and easy.

I think it depends on whether you are laying on your back, or have the luxury of a pit/ramp
I found the pump to be worth the money as it holds a lot, which reduces the number of times you have to shuffle in and out from under the car!
