Title: Volvo C303 / Land Rover 101
Post by: Mystical Snail on October 26, 2008, 17:38:29
I am looking at getting and converting one of these two trucks into a overland camper truck. I prefer the looks to the volvo c303 over the land rover 101 but does any one have any experiance in using any of these two as experdition vehicals?

I also have not seen one in real life before so if anyone has a C303/C304 or a 101 and lives close to Basingstoke, Hampshire (close being within 50ish miles), could you let me know and maybe let me come down and have a look at yours? (camper converted or not)

Thankyou!

Drove a 101 ambulance to Cape Town from the UK a few years back (2003/4) worked really well, no major problems, was luxury compared with those in trucks living out of the tailgate.

Sold my 6x6 101 a couple of years ago having driven it around West Africa.  http://westafrica2006.blogspot.com for details.

For:  1970s mechanicals, spares generally very easy to get hold of, easy to repair when it breaks down (which mine did on about 13 occasions), plenty of room inside (double bed in my 6x6).
Against:  not very comfortable to drive, slow, hideous economy with V8 (mine was coming at about 5 1/2 tonnes fully laden, so no surprises there).

I've not used a C303 but I do kinda fancy one.  They're a bit smaller but you can buy a purpose-built 6x6 instead of a converted one if you want the extra space.  I suspect that spares would be the biggest headache when expeditioning.
