Title: Sankey Handbrake
Post by: Mark_Solesbury on April 19, 2008, 07:55:39
Got myself a sankey trailer..

think its a 3/4 widetrack, but it looks massive - did they ever make 1 tonne ones?

Anyway -

The handbrake on it is seized solid. The handle moves up and down, but the ratchet will not bite to hold it.

Is there anywhere that sells spares for these?

There were some 1 tonne Sankeys built to carry 1,000 litre bowser tanks, but IIRC they were non-tailgate narrow types.  Whether any Widetracks were buiolt as 1 tonne I don't know.  They do look big though and being the full width of the body you can get lots of stuff in, probably more than they can carry.

You should have a built or data plate somewhere though :-k that siad my 1tonne Rapier was re-rated by the REME to 1,300kg payload as it wasn't used off-road like it was designed.

Ive managed to get it apart and get it all moving, but the bit that bites into the teeth is worn and will not hold.

Anyone sell parts for these?

When the parts get sold off they go into big tubs I'm told, these then get sold of by tender (Withams do them) so iunless you want to go rooting through a hanger full of stuff and buy it by the tonne then you will have to resort to contacting all the usual places to see if anyone has a stock of parts.  You see some really off stuff come up on flea bay but ralry anything really useful.
