Post by: redneck on November 20, 2006, 12:37:58
Hi
I've spotted this winch on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/9-500lb-RECOVERY-4x4-WINCH-12V-CEcert-NEXTDAY-DELIVERY_W0QQitemZ110054829234QQihZ001QQcategoryZ9895QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
what's your opinion of it  :?:  I want it to mount on the front of a SWB Pajero

For the money its ok, the "font" they use on the winch reminds me of KEW winches.

As far as winches go though its probably pretty poor, the solenoids will be cheap, and it will never pull the 4.3T they claim, as most cheaper winches never do.

But, you want a cheap winch, thats one of many out there that will fill the criteria, so long as you dont expect miracles or use it daily it should do the job ok.

Have a skim read of the winches thread on the main forum if you haven't already.

ive benn looking at cheapo winchs and thats a damn good price.  im hearing great things about the britpart winches..  they do an 8000 one for 240..  must say im on a budget too so am inclined to go for a cheapo one. knowing i wont be using it too often and that it'll probably out last my truck if i look after it.

Will you be able to get spares for it when it breaks. All winches will need a certain amount of repair, how frequent that is depends on the usage you'll be putting it to. Having said that I suppose I should look at the one on the front of H.

Spending more on a well known brand, from one of the establishes suppliers, with the knowledge that spares back up is available might be better in the long run.

I've gone for one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRANDED-ELECTRIC-WINCH-12000-Lbs-5-5-Tons-12-V-NEW_W0QQitemZ230066374164QQihZ013QQcategoryZ36632QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I got it when they were doing them as an auction item for a little bit cheaper than it is here, I went for a 12000lb one figuring that as i am probably never going to use it at it's limit then it should be under less strain and possibly last OK, as it's really as a back up for green laning trips I won't be abusing it. Had I been planning to do challenge events etc then I may have HAD to get a dearer one but I reckon this should do for me................time will tell
