Has anyone got any information on decent hotels in this little coastal town??
SWMBO has just been there overnight on business & was (to put it very mildly) disappointed with the one she (& collegues) stayed at.
(train; Wakefield Westgate - B'ham new Street, then car to Aberystwyth & visa-versa for return)
Note to Mods;
Don't worry, I'm not going to name & shame the hotel (no libellous comments)
Now to her surprise, they've won the bid & she has to come home this evening & go back for a meeting on Thursday.
So, she's phoned me from Birmingham & asked if I can find any hotels, & did I want to drive down with her tomorrow evening & 'do my own thing' whilst she's in the meeting on Thursday.
She did look at train travel, but it's about 5&1/2 hours with 2 changes!
So, any help/information ASAP??
I've got this site up (http://www.hotels.uk.com/accommodation/hotels-accommodation-uk/Aberystwyth/hotels_in_Aberystwyth.htm), but need recommendations
Thanks

Currently Aber seems to be full of families where the men wear liitle caps on the back of their heads, if you know what I mean, my boy.
Does the place have to be in Aber or are you willing to travel a little way?
There are a few good pub type places on the A44 from Llangurig to Aber or I can recommend a good place here in Llanidloes.
PM me and I will give you my number, after dinner.

As close as possible, as she's got an early morning meeting

Myself and the other half stayed in the Marine hotel (or was it richmond - they are next door to each other) back at new years, both are nice either way and can be reccomended.
They aren't exactly 5* though but sea views from the room was nice to wake up too :)
There is also a nice B&B just outside aberystwyth on the A44 between Capel Bangor and Llanbadarn Fawr, very welcoming lady who runs it and great brekky cooked in the morning :) (see below)

Have a look at the Marine Hotel on the seafront (opposite the pier)...near the station as well

There are lots of RUPP's to the SE of there for you to fill your time with :) :) Especially as they will be gone soon.

When my parents come to visit, they stay in the Richmond hotel - they seem to like it there.
And if you're looking for a place to sink a beer or two, you could do a whole lot worse than Rummers by the harbour.
(And on Thursday nights, there's a cracking reggae/dub night on at the Angel 8) )

Oh and if you do drive down the Druid Inn at Goginan does the best pub steak I've ever had...ie like home cooked

Thanks chaps, she's trying to wriggle out of going with her boss today
Otherwise it's a 17:00/18:00 set off this afternoon & an evening drive down there.
A fun packed day for me tomorrow wandering round the area, before coming back.
I know, it's got a Funicular, Camera Obscura & the pier
The Vale of Rheidol railway & 'Devils Bridge' aren't too far away.
Sadly I reckon Ironbridge is too far away for an easy drive.

You can do worse than heading up into the hills just to the north - I went to uni there (several moons ago) and used to mountain bike all round. Not sure about the quality of the lanes, but was a great place for some fresh air.
Glad to hear Rummers is still going strong - how I remember their 50p a shot of vodka nights I'm not so sure! Is it still a case of sawdust on the floor?

She's just phoned from office all excited as we don't have to go now :D
I think the client must have realised the chargeable expenses of going down (& stopping overnight) for a 2-3 hour meeting?
