Title: Series door locks
Post by: thermidorthelobster on April 11, 2005, 16:57:29
Hello Series folk,

I have a 101 question, but it's about the door handles.  I think the door handles are the same as on the SIII, although on the 101 they don't have a lock barrel.  (You can only lock them from the inside.)

When I got my 101 I found that on the driver's door, I couldn't pull the locking catch up to the top, so it wouldn't lock;  on the passenger's door, I could pull the catch up, but you could still open the door with the handle.

I found that in each case, if I turned the rotating part on the door lock which engages with the bracket on the body by hand (with the door open), I could lock them fine.  Which led me to assume that the brackets were out of alignment, so the catch part wasn't quite rotating enough when I shut the doors.

I've moved the brackets, and now the doors lock, but predictably, the doors don't shut as tightly as they did.  Is there an obvious fix for this?  Is something a bit too worn?

Thanks,
David (total novice with Series Land Rovers)

Had a similar problem myself, all you can do is try and find a happy middle ground where the doors lock and are just tight enough.
