Title: Rear Cross member
Post by: Ridgeback on May 17, 2009, 21:43:46
I have just had the jet wash on the rear cross member and the rust worm has made a few extra holes.

The rest of the chassis looks OK. I need to get another crossmember but I'm not sure if its best to get one with or without the chassis extensions.

Whats the pro's and con's of each version (with or without extensions)

I can weld so its just a case of knowing which ones best to get.

It really depends on how far back down the chassis legs the rust has got to. No point welding a new rear cross member to metal which will need replacing itself soon.

I cant see any rust on the chassis leg's but without cutting the old crossmember off first, its hard to say.

Think I will go for the extensions to be safe and cut them down if not needed.

Having been out and had another look, It looks an easier job to cut and weld the chassis legs rather then try cutting off just the rear cross member.
