Title: 1978 Series 3 Removing Exhaust manifold from 2286 diesel
Post by: Dr Love on April 06, 2010, 20:11:43
Last job before the m.o.t...... Sort out the leaky exhaust, (Not as Easy as i was expecting)

Has anyone recently removed the exhaust manifold from a 2286cc diesel? did it come straight off, or did the threads strip and studs shear off? i can see this turning out to be a right job and a half......

the joint between the downpipe and the manifold was leaking, causing the engine to run smoky, simpe as tightening the three bolts up that hold it together? no, some butcher has already got in there before me and rounded them all off. so i cant get them undone or done up.

my only option is to sacrifice the front end of the pipe by sawing through it, and removing the manifold so that i can gas axe the three bolts off and fit new studs.

cheers for your thoughts, Tom

You could try carefully cutting the nuts off with a Dremel-type thing.  Wilco's do a draper version for £19.99
