Title: starter motor

DISASTER

Got up this morning to get Sully in shape for TIXOVER, was going to head out and get some new tyres, lo and behold - no power.

Looks like the starter motor is [!Expletive Deleted!].

Don't know if I can get it all sorted before Sunday - so unless somebody has some good tips or a spare starter motor lying about and picks up this post before it gets dark today - I won't be able to make it.

take the starter off and give it a good clean up. have a look at all the wires to make sure none are broken and make sure your battery is good.

Just about to start - the thing has to come off anyway. Is there an easy way of getting it off - Haynes seem to suggest removing the exhaust manifold???

Undo the bolts, then roll the starter down the chassis rail. It can be done. DO NOT REMOVE EXHAUST!!!!

OK - unit is now off.

I have opened it looked, been horified at the shattered interior   and closed it. IMHO it is not likely to be repaired (certainly by me).

Anyone know if I can get one locally (Northampton) as time is kinda crucial now.

Owen,

You might have got this via MSN from Frank, but I have used these guys before on repairing starting motors in my old V8 they were very good and quite cheap, they might be able to get it repaired in a day? It's worth a try.

What a day - as confirmed the starter motor is beyond repair.

Yep - I could by a new one, unfortunately this particular hobby of mine receives very little financial backing from the finance director, aka missus.

Well we'll see how it goes tommorow with Plan B - cheers Phil.
