Title: Inof Needed please
Post by: robbie on May 07, 2004, 13:40:46
Are these 'bad bits' really all that bad on a 23 yr old Landy S3?? and what would it take to sort the big issues out??

Bad bits, front bumper bent, rear x-member will need replacing for next mot, door seal rubbers need replacement, its been brush painted

Good bits, servisable chassis, bulkhead and mechanics, mot Nov tax june, new parabolics, new webber, new fuel tank, new county cloth seats x five and matching cubby box, new 90 style sliding hard top windows, a-bar, large spots, light guards, reverse lights, music, chequer plate wing tops, sills and rear tub corners, the best brakes i have ever had on a Landy. 8 spokes with good tyres, wheel arch spats, radiator muff, 90 door mirrors, bonnet mounted spare, free wheel hubs, inertia seat belts, 4 mud flaps, full towing equipment, drives very well, lots of bills.

The only one concerning me is the rear x-member, what bit is it and can it be replaced easily??

Any (sensible :) ) comments on the above greatly accepted

Right Robbie

Can you weld?

Rear cross member is not that big a job (he says with a military rear crossmember sitting in the shed to fit to his l/w for the past 2 months) they only butt up to  the chassis body, just need to clear away the wiring before chopping old one off

Bumper either replace or heat it up and persuade it with a hammer to straighten up

Door seals I believe paddocks along with other suppliers can help with new ones

If you want I can send you a pic of the crossmember for the lightweight, a little bit different to the one you want, but the same mounting principle, as the one on the l/w is a s3 one anyway

2 months. Is that all.
I've got a Nokia car kit to fit to the Disco.
I've had the kit well over 18 months.

DO we need a Mudclub Roundtuit award?

Robbie, the rear cross member is the rear bumper(for want of a better description) on a series or a 90/110 see attached picture. It's the black bit that runs across the motor under the door. Don't half look silly if you don't get it straight.

If the door seal worked how would all the water get back out.

On the lightweight I look on door seals as a way of letting the water out from the floors easier, without having too much of a draught coming in when on the road

Nope, is that a prerequisite for an S3??

I am still interested, especially after having spent all weekend in the prescence of a S3. I have looked at the one diesel boy is selling in the 'for sale' section....looks good on the piccies, any more advice??

it is usually found during conversations with others who miss you off, when that happens you have had 'inof' of them :D

Thanks lads, I now have inof info :D

I am staying with the Suzie for a while. It is a long story but combines 4x4's, insurance companies and 17 yr olds!!!!

and yes. I have had inof of them this week too!!!! :(
