Title: 3.9 V8 Exhaust Manifold Gasket
Post by: TechnoTurkey on June 27, 2008, 09:21:18: How tricky is it to swap the drivers side exhaust manifold gasket on a 1990 3.9 efi auto?

Post by: Skibum346 on June 27, 2008, 10:00:03: A bit fiddly... but not particularly difficult.

The biggest problem is access... if you have all the whistles and bells, it can be difficult enough getting a ratchet in to undo the bolts let alone yor whacking great fist in to position the new gasket.

Then of course you have to line the bolt up with the three holes in the manifold, gasket & block.

Finally... you've gotta get the ratchet back on.

As I say, it's not particularly technical but it will require a well stocked pocket of change if you are within hearing distance of a swear box!

I like the logic ;)

Is the 3.9 gasket different? My 3.5 has one for each cylinder and all have to be the right way round :oops:

To help position /hold the gasket/s I use exhaust assembly paste ;)

My independant specialisy recommends the two port per gasket version. I know that our 3.9 had four singles on each bank but I honestly don't know the difference.
