Title: "NASTY NOISE"!!!!!!
Post by: ozz770 on February 27, 2005, 21:37:37
 HELP !!!!!
My trusty Rangie has developed a problem (while playing in the snow), I now notice a severe clunking noise when pulling away and when reversing. It sounds like it is stuck with the difflock permantly on even though it isnt. Any help please would be appreciated. I went up the feilds to try and see if the diffs were wound up but its still the same (just MUDDIER !!). I hope that its not to serious ??? Thanks.

You're not the only one recently, check out some of the threads here and in the Disco forum!
Anyhow, check some of the following:

rear A frame balljoint
Rear trailing arm bushes incl torque
front radius arm bushes incl torque
all 4 UJs for play and bolts being tight
Wheel bearings and steering swivel bearings
foreign objects jammed inside wheels/wheels damaged
wheelnuts!!!!!

If the above fails we need more detail, is it a repetitive clunking, is it speed related, under power, only in reverse?  Where does it sem to come from?  What have you been doing out in the snow (you jammy g**, it hasn't snowed here since Thursday).

What year is your car, etc etc.

Thanks for your assistance, I will try and get under her tomorrow, so i'll keep my fingers crossed that I find the problem. Talked to a couple of people today and was told it could be the tranfer box breather blocked so will try to find that as well. Got to fix ASAP as I need it daily for transport !!!
