Title: new tyre sizes ??
Post by: burgerman on April 28, 2008, 14:21:45
Hi all wifeys TD5 90 has 235/85 muddyish terrain tyres fitted which need replacing soon, already runs wheel spacers ( mainly to get more steering lock ) but was wondering if larger/wider could be fitted safely to a stock motor ?? will not be chopping bodywork or replacing springs ( just yet  )

Certainly 265/75r16 oversized reaterads (they were more like 33" than 32" diametere) on modulars fit quite happily. Though not as much as spacers the modulars still increased the track quite a bit. It may be that 30mm (typical size) spaces push the wheel out too much and hit the outer arch rather than rising up inot the large cavity of the arch.

No experiance on it but a 255/85r16 is also supposed to fit a standard 90/defender.

I'm running 265/75x16 on disco steels with 30mm spacers with no problems even off-road. My "off-road" tyres are insa turbo STs 265/75x16 on modulars, no spacers, which do catch on the rear arches on articulation. Hope this helps.
