Title: EFI timing
Post by: clbarclay on August 21, 2006, 18:01:17
The engine is a 3.5 EFI high compression in and 87 range rover.

Problem 1
What should the timing marks be like on this engine? The attachment shows a square section cut out in the pully and a piece of metal that could be the pointer.

If these are the timing marks then what part of the notch is TDC etc (righthand/lenft hand edge or the middle). The workshop manual doesn't give any explenation to timing marks and there is not writing like TDC or degrees before on the engine/pully.

Problem 2
What should the static timing be set to?

The workshop manual says TDC for the EFI which doesn't sound right to me. I haven't yet tried this as i'm not sure on the timing marks.

That look like a V notch, so the centre of it.  Ã‚£.5 HC EFi, I'll have a look for you but it won't be a lot, maybe 4 degrees.

Funny but the LSE should be 8 degrees, that's a lot.  It was running at TDC, so 8 deg out and you couldn't ell except it was getting hot with the 'van on.
