in one of thr LRO magazine items a few years ago was a detachable steering wheel. makes it fun if they try and drive off. remove the starter motor relay each night. leave it in neutral between high and lo at night. at least you may hear them revving it up trying to pull away

Thanks T30 yes the neutral idea is a good one ....Yes been on to variouse companeys today about removable steering wheels I have a Mountney at the moment and they do a detachable boss but unfortunatly it only works with there M series wheels and not the classic range meaning I need to buy a new steering wheel, a new boss and the snap off adaptor comes to around

I reckon its time one of the many 4x4 companies out there came up with something , there is a small fortune waiting to be earned with a reasonably priced item that does :the job ,we can only hope some brainy sod has a brainwave untill then the dogs kip in the truck , :twisted: :twisted:

My cousin used to lock a padlock and chain around the clutch or brake upto the steering wheel, guess it was a bit more effective than a normal steering lock!

I depends where you park it. If it's in earshot then alrams etc will help but if no-one intervenes then all you can do is make it harder to nick than someone elses.
Removable exhaust sections, delayed cut-outs in the ignition, hidden fuel valves all cause inconvenience but have little or no deterant in the first place.
Wheel clamps, padlocks on the steering, security posts are very visual deterants but can eventually be defeated.
I wouldn't leave my dog in the car as I wouldn't want to be burying the dog the same day as my car got nicked!
If it's really that bad then admit defeat and sell it.
Me I have a number of security measures, posts in the drive, steering DicLocks, wheel clamps when I'm away from home, alarms and imobilisers, plus a couple of "other devices" and CCTV.

Leaveing the dogs in the car depends on the dogs you own i wouldnt leave a yapping Jack in the back but a Rottie that doesnt like strangers + his side kick Staffie mate would put off most people, the tossers that nick the trucks are only normal toerags not super gangs tooled up and ready to blow the dogs away , most people that walk by the truck seem to suddenly go wide giveing it a very wide berth, :twisted: :twisted: i will stick with em for now,

try putting the mother inlaw in it as you know how she scares the crap out of you , just imagine the poor tyke that wakes her up to nick you landie.

Disklok and a trakstar. I'm also tempted to paint it hot yellow to make it really obvious to plod if I report it nicked and they have to look for it's body parts.

Campaign and get into government and change the laws and allow us to gain a basic human right to protect our property with deadly force then the scumbag will think twice once he know he could be on a playing field without the upper hand. I'm sick to death of finding deep holes to put their bodies (fantasy).

Got one of these as a deterant...6mm thick steel..locks around the brake pedal...would hate to lose the key :laugh:

I have a similar one, plus a disclock (supposed to be the best) but if they want it they'll find a way.

If you fancy yourself as an electrician you can wire in a battery cutoff for a handful of coins.
And if you have a petrol engine you could remove the lead between the coil and the distributor (slightly annoying to do each time but FREE!!!)

Clutch claw and steering wheel lock on mine but im thinking of getting a detachable steering wheel if i can find a good one

I'd go with a removable steering wheel, can't be that hard to adapt to a Land Rover, but if they want it they will find a way. They winched my Discovery backwards round a bend and onto a beaver tail/ car transporter. :angry:

most of the "prestige" motors ive recovered after theyve been stolen by professionals tend to be stolen with the keys..i.e the toe rag breaks into your house or carjacks you and then doesnt have to worry about security devices..or have been lifted using a hiab and then they can worry about security devices when its in there lock up/other country...the ones nicked by amateurs tend to cause a lot of damage so youd probably be better off having it never recovered!
when im at home mines surrounded by a couple of dogs, 2 locked gates, security lights etc..but when im out and about i just use a crook lock..if they want it theyl take it..
but defenders are the easiest vehicles to gain entry to!

Use it off road like mine - not a straight panel on it and no one has ever tried to nick it!

As a lot of people have said, if they want to take it away they will :angry:
I have a steering wheel immobiliser on mine and a SKYTAG fitted, at least that way I may see it tracked & returned :undecided:

Quick release number plates, scumbags know they wont get far without one.
