Post by: barmiebrumie on September 12, 2008, 21:44:24
Hi all;
        swmbo has a 2002 td4, when it gets to 50mph there is a very bad vibration & sounds very loud.

Any one else had this problem ?,  thanks in advance

Thanks

Rear diff mounts?
VCU support bearings?
Engine mount?

Could simply be wheel balence.

Or not so simple the IRD.

Thanks for the replies, will try & get underneath during the week,  I drove it to the LRO on sunday, made a real bad noise as soon as we hit 50 sounded like something under the center chubby box was about to vibrate itself loose but as soon as we got past 60 it went just as quick as it appeared, so tried to stay below 50 or above 60 as best i could,

will let you know when I find out,

thanks again

With the noise in that area I would certainly look very closely at the VCU support bearings.
