Title: Terrano Buying Advice

Looking for a cheap, capable and reliable off-roader, drawn to the Terrano SWB as there seems to be plenty around for not a lot of cash.

Any advice please, are there specific things to watch for? I've no experience with these as I have always bought Land Rovers in the past.

I have run my terrano 2 now for four years and have to say I cant fault it.Off road it goes anywhere my mates
landys go.I have raised it around 2 inches by winding up the torsion bars,have pro comp es9000 shocks,milner rear
springs,bronco 30mm wheel spacers,and poly bush front and rear anti roll bars. I use cooper discoverer STT M/Ts and
as i said before its gone anywhere I've wanted ( so far ). My terrano is a 97 SWB 2.4i and have never had any problems
with water crossings some quite deep. They seem to be pretty bullet proof,the only problem being is that if something
does go wrong lots of parts are main dealer only and can be pricey. In four years the only real thing I have had to do
is replace the clutch. Body work and chassis is rock solid other than the scratches I have done through laning.
I have thought of buying a landy many times but end up keeping the nissan.

Look for rusty cills especially on SWB models and also rust around seat belt mounts, in the rear arches and lift the rear seats to check as its a double skinned section that can hold water.

Other than that pretty bomb proof.

Mines spring and body lifted, LWB springs in a SWB and 60mm body lift and as above goes anywhere a similarly moded landy can, only more manouverable and a lot less likely to break anything.

With a lift and some big mud tyres you will find the swb's hard to stop terrain wise. Some can rust but i would say that is mostly the really early ones with ford badges. Otherwise they are top fun.

ive just bought a lwb terrano 2 for £500 what sort of prices are offroad bits

You'll have to find them first as they are few and far between.


I've got a batch of +2" springs being made for me, LWB will be £75 +P&P.

Theres not a lot else available but what do you want, these trucks don't need all the uprated drive train stuff a landy would. Don't need a front bash guard as it should have one, don't need diff guards, they're virtually indistructble.

Change the rear diff oil (preferably twice, run for 500 miles between) for proper LSD oil, many have been abused or had wrong oil put in and you'll find the rear LSD works much better.

where you get the 2" lift springs from thats dirt cheap, unfortunately my one dosen have a nudge bar its just standard bumper
