Title: Recovery truck "The Lion"
Post by: blueboar on December 05, 2005, 20:39:15
many moons ago I use to pass a recovery truck called "the Lion" on the way to work. She was a converted Diamond T45 tank transporter. She was based at a place called Sandside (top end of Morecambe Bay), Cumbria.

She use to be called out to accidents on the A6 Shap road, before the M6 was built.

Does anyone know is she is still around or has a any pictures of her?

just been on a good site

Can't say I remember it, but here's a Martian (http://community.webshots.com/photo/344259581/365067036fjgRUk) for you.
I spent many holidays as a kid at Morecambe

Try these 2 'fellow' WebShots users, they've got some very nice images in their albums;

Ah, the A6 (pre-M6) from what I've read & old footage, it was one hell of a road. I'd have loved to have experienced it in its hey-day

Thanks for that, I remember nearly crashing my car, as I drove past trying to get a good look at it, she use to be tucked in the corner of the garage.

There was an artical in a magazine called "Truck" i think, it's the same magazine which ran an artical on three trucks built by a company called Hendrickson.

The trucks were called "The Hulk" and "Kermit" and "the lemon", but this is going back a good 20 years.

She has probably been scraped now, but she was one hell of a machine.

Thanks
