I was trying to work out why it was different, made me think of the Phase 1 V8.

I like it though.

I tried the crystal headlights and I'm not impressed, they go yellow after a couple of years, they DO CRACK and the beam pattern is a bit screwy.  They scratch badly too.

Buy a decent set of Wipac Quadoptics, the later ones (95 on) have a plastic reflector rather than metal so they don't corrode.  Also I like the Ring/Autopal lamps. they have a flat glass though and the beam pattern is narrower so you might not like them.  The Wipacs are better on a standard car, the Ring ones better suited to a lifted truck.

The grill is stage one inspired but DIY as real ones are silly money.

Rrb are the crystal lights you used the wipac ones from Paddocks or copies from eBay cos yours is the first negative review I have seen?

Cheers for the input looks like I'm heading the right way.

I reckon a grill made up from the small honeycombe in black would do the trick ,you know the sort of material that boyracers use when they debadge the grill,  :undecided:just a thought,ATB.

i had thought about expamet when i made mine but i wanted it to look kinda like a stage 1 but not quite, to get the rivet counters thinking.

whilst on the subject what about painting all the bolt on bits black? eg tail gate hinges and eyes and the screen clamps and door furniture?

I once saw a dark mettalic blue 90 with all those bits + others in silver and to be honest i thought it looked as though the guy was bored started to do the small bits and didnt know when to stop ,think you have to be carefull when picking out detail its easy to go over the top, i reckon that sometimes less can be more if you follow my drift  :grin:but thats just me there are so many trucks out there that have every bolt on bit in the shop people fit roof crates even if they dont need one just for the look its now nice to see a Landy  naked ,

I've got crystal headlamps fitted, probably from paddocks (been so long I don't recall)... I've had no ageing issues with them at all and they have had a lot of Salisbury plain throw at them with plenty of dunking in water holes. Don't recall ever changing the lamp bulbs that came with em either.

I quite like the non-plastic headlight surround theme. although I see you've got S3 smaller ones fitted... looks good

I used the S3 headlamp surrounds too. I hated the big plastic jobbies. I've also got NAS lights which fill up the remaining space completely. The S3 surrounds are pretty tight!

I also use the Wipac Quadoptics. You still get the metal backed ones as well as plastic ones. I've never really liked the look of the Wipac crystal ones, so have never used them. The Ring ones can rattle in the bucket. The 3 little lugs on the back tend to be too small.

Been playing and it turns out I have quadoptics in anyway so I put some spare 90% bulbs in and whilst better they are still not great so I will get Santa to get Mr the crystal ones, its not like they are expensive if they need replacing.

I can't remember what bran my crystal ones were but they came from Bolton I think, they aren't branded Wipac though but cost enough when I bought them.  I fitted 3 pairs, one to Blue, one to the TDi and one to my sister's.

The ones in Blue are cracked and scratched and yellow, the ones in the TDi went a bit yellow but I got sick of the awful beam pattern when I fitted HID.

My sister has Autopal in hers, nice beam pattern, the TDi and the LSE have plastic backed Quadoptics, both cars are standard.  Quadoptics work great on cars, they are a popular choice for classic cars.

Blue still has the cracked Crystal ones in, that's the least of it's problems at the moment.  If it ever gets fixed it will have Quadoptics too.

The lenses are supposed to be polycarbonate and shatter proof/impact resistant.  I don't know how I cracked mine but I did.  I think the biggest change is in fitting new bulbs, go for Osram if you can get them, Phillips are ok and so are GE.  I don't know who makes the Hlafords ones, my Micra came with Osram and anything I try that's supposed to be an upgrade is not better than standard.
