Title: roll cage mounting points
Post by: boss on January 10, 2008, 18:16:22
would this hold up???????

i started knocking up the mounting points for my roll cage today.
apparentley your soposed to mount the cage on the front outriggers but thats not possible on a disco
only one at the moment as i had a little mishap with the other  its 6mm thick mild steel its got 3 welds on the inside and 1 on the out side its the first time ive ever done the ripple thing with a mig and(so im told) it makes it stronger to cap it all off like that(?). there is still a plate to go onto the front of it and on the underside.

the weld down the outside looks fine, and would be strong enough alone, the weld down the insidelooks from the picture like it has washed a bit, or sitting on top.
if the welder is set up correctly 1 weld down the inside is all that is needed, not 3 welds, wast of time, just weave it a bit to make it wider if need be.

yes welding the inside was a bit awkward as i tacked it all together first  so the weld defiantly isn't at its best!

is this for the front ?
why not make a new outrigger for the chassis ?
most disco cages are mounted this way
