Hello chap, why is the working lamp on the back just above the ladders? Maybe illuminating your danglies as you get onto the roof

But for me, nothing says off roader like scratches and tree sliders!

I have tree sliders and on the drivers side there is a 5mm surface scratch that goes from the headlight all along the side and over the wheel arches to the very rear!! Blooming trees down byways

I will take a photo of mine soon as I havent got a recent photo. The best I have got is this look when I got seriously stuck at the Bristol off road course in December last year.

IMO window tints (not front) look good on a disco, although they make it impossible to park at night..

checker plate on bottom? tree sliders?

window tints look good but like you said they are impossible in the dark as for checker plate big no no but in the right places on a defender it looks ok, as for rock/tree sliders i think it's down to the style.

I dont find the tinted windows a problem at all to park at night with. Mine are dark enough that from the outside to look in you need to have your face right to the window with hands either side of your head to see anything.

also pluss side is it darkenss peoples headlights behind you.,

I beg to differ fellow poster, it is in my humble opinion that a subtle amount, in areas prone to intimate encounters with inanimate objects, (although the wing and rear quarter are an exception!) it looks reasonable, although i have pondered how it would look in black.. (click for a bigger pic)

for some reason I think the colour of the body depends on if chequer plate looks good or ugly.

On your light blue one I think it looks good, where as on a red or green disco I think it looks like someone is hidding a hole and doesnt look right at all.

I have to agree though that on a defender it does look very smart.

Here's my example...

1st view with existing powder coated silver Modulars...

2nd view with Black Preditor alloys (courtesy of Photoshop - mine are in the loft waiting until I get enough cash for the tyres)...

3rd view again with Black Preditor alloys and now black chequer plate(again courtesy of Photoshop - my chequer plate needs trimming by 15mm as my Jap spec Disco has slightly deeper side mouldings)...

All on the same theme - understated and subtle!

That's the only downside with Preditors - only available in 17".

It reduces your tyre choice considerably - my aim is 265/70/17 BFG All Terrain. They equate to 31.5 x 10.5 which is as big as I want to go. I have fitted plus 2 springs and plus 1.5 spring spacers. I've got castor corrected radius arms and cranked trailing arms in the garage waiting to be fitted when it warms up a bit (a lot)!

im going for a 4 inch lift with them on . look alrite too me. looks no worst than 750r16 on a defender with a 2 inch lift on

Post by: mentalmoshio sophs V8i on December 16, 2007, 19:44:55
come to think of it a 3inch  lift looks better than a 2 inch with 32s on just sets the offset of better i think :P

I think they will be fine.  :D

The 265/70/17s (actual diameter 31.6") are only 2.5mm (0.1") smaller than the 235/85/16  (actual diameter 31.7") which are in all of the photos.

I'm glad you said they might look lost - this suggests they dont look lost in the photo!

my winch rope is longer that ideally suited for the winch so it rubs on the bars going across the top of the winch, so before i go out i took about 10ft of winch rope under the net     for ease of getting to it quickly 8)

A can of satin black from halfrauds and a 99p graphic off eblag

I think spraying the bottom black changes the shape of the car and makes it apear higher and less lumpy.
