GPS Receiver returns 'Warming up...'
You go through a ford and the water freezes to the car. Wish I could get a pick, looks like I've been out in the arctic :)

Yes it's been rather cool this evening, 2 hours standing outside brewing tea/coffee and refuge for cold Scouts in warm 110 with Ebby running for those worst effected, got pic's of 3 trangi's 'steaming' nicely on the table (aka 110 front wing) but not much else, roads coming home ~21:30Hrs were slippery in places...

Spent the weekend in North Yorkshire with my Explorer Scouts - Saturday was 'interesting' walking weather.........freezing snow, that froze my rucksac catches solid - entertaining and funny to start with, then a right PITA and a serious issue when I needed to start handing out spare gear :roll:

I had noticed that too, not quite cold enough to get the interesting frozen tyres effect yet though :)
Was reading -4.1 on the way through Southwick at 7:45 Alledgedly it got to -5 and looking at the cars I can beleive it.
Rabbit has no antifreeze either! :shock:

The fun element of Scouting in the cold is not being cold, eh Jimbo, we had several turn up without hats or gloves and in trainers, so the warm 110 came in handy. Several Scouts have commented that I always seem to have everything we might need in it too, Be Prepared!
One girl, actually from a 'green' family, said my 110 is really cool, allsorts of useful gear and 'pretty' too!!! One more on *our* side ;-)

i remember all of those cold wet walks up in to the fog on my dofe and in explorers :lol:

Does cold effect GPS?
I set mine to take me from Lancaster to Swindon it told me to take the M61 towards Manchester which i ignored, then on the M6 toll it told me to come off which i did, when i got to the toll booth it told me to take the exit on the roundabout back on again. Ended up paying the toll twice. :shock:

My Explorers love the 110 - especially the Eberspacher in the back, most useful for 'defrosting' the less well-prepared ones :roll:

You've got the blown hot air ebby then? I was considering one for the second row, the very back is seperated with a safety cage bulkhead infilled with plastic sheet so I don't loose heat out the back door, my ebby looks after the engine first with heater output a useful byproduct.
Looks like I've got to teach our Scout's how to make buddy burners, had two on the rook rack as beacons/low level lighting before the start, the Petromax is rather too bright at times!

Cold effect electronics, full stop :)
Normal radio gear can be knocked off frequency and below about -10 most domestic (read indoor) electronics stop working.
LCDs freeze about -20 ish, or rather are ireversibly damaged (lost a phone and PDA this way)
Resistance to the flow of electrocity changes, electrolyte fluid properties change, all of which makes things less (or more) accurate.
-20 is considered the sane limit for outdoor kit, below that you are into military grade. I did some embedded numberplate stuff in calgary and had to find micros good for -60 as the -40 rated ones were still struggling, crashing and locking up.

it was cold enough for "B&Q Value" de-icer to freeze up (went all throffy) and not really do what it says on the tin..!
firewood takes a bit of lighting when its damp and 60% frozen solid!
also the 8 ball gearknob takes 3 hours before getting to the "touchable" state....
WMS has retreated to the exhaust aperture.. spotted a new web covered in ice hanging from below the bumper! :lol:

I always wondered about the wisdom in following the fashion for turned aluminium gearbox and transfer knobs in Land-Rovers, though I did have a small two stroke piston for one in an escort for a while a very long time ago...

I used to have to drive my brothers new style mini once a week to keep it running when I was selling it last Jan / feb time. That had a ally gear lever. Only felt that blighter once! After that journey a sock went on over the top. That too had the option of warm or ok. All depended on if I put it on the house radiator before getting in the car!! :lol:
But I think I know it is cold when.........
I go to pull 2 wheelie bins into the road to only stand there with my feet slipping on the ice and not moving!!! And then sliding behind the bins downhill to the lorry and not being able to stop!!! :lol: It was great fun :D
