How many limbs do you have to trade new a new gearbox + transfer box?

I agree that sometimes there is a lot of sense in forking out for a new part as unless you really know what you are looking for and who you are buying from, it can be a lottery when it comes to some recon parts like engines & gearboxes.

About 3-4 years ago when I was looking to re-power my 2.5NA D 90 I was shocked at what was then being charged for 200TDi Defender engines (up to £2K each for an old take-out unit). Add to this the fact that they were all going to be old and ususally very high mileage, it didn't take a lot to convince me to go for a brand-new genuine parts 300TDi re-power kit.
Expensive at £6.5K (and that was over 3-years ago) but everything was brand-new and as I intend keeping the vehicle long term it made good sense to me. The installation is completely standard and looking under the bonnet or underneath there is no mechanical difference between my 1986 vehicle and a late 1990's model (apart from my engine doesn't have an EGR as standard).

unfortunately they dont accept limbs so had to use god old pound notes.
luckily i have a very good mate in the landrover business who has supplied  the boxes at cost and doesnt charge the full going rate for fitting so its not as painfull as you might think, but still cost me a good holiday.
i do have a some organs for sale if your interested as i now need the cash!
