Title: 90 very poorly... advice on viscous transfer box...
Post by: electricbluebadger on July 16, 2007, 20:12:50
Well the 90 is currently looking very sorry for itself and dead on the drive, Couldnt fix it over the weekend cos Im a fair weather mechanic and didnt fancy hours lay on the drive after discovering the transfer box has more slack than a very slack thing and is pretty much U/S, the rear prop UJ is shot and the rear diff has 1/4 turn of free play..... ie its pretty much off road :(, anyhow I have a viscous transfer box that is supposed to be recon'd sat in the garage...anybody ever fitted one to a 90??, other than the ratios being different can anyone envisage any other probs I may have?

Cheers Steve

Ratios as you say, no difflock (can be a PITA if you want to winch someone else, or park on a slippery slope) but run quieter and much better handling on the road, at the limit of grip the car will go very slightly into oversteer (like an early S1) but very rarely understeers.

Interchangeable at least externally with the LT230, bolts up to LT77 and R380 plus the B-W auto box, all the same fitting.

FILL WITH ATF.
