Title: SAG tyres

What are these then, i believe there old fashioned series ones? Would they be alrite to go on a 90 or would they fall apart on the road?  :?  Whats the difference between them and radial tyres?

Sorry but if you have sag tyres then you need more air in them  :oops:  :roll:  Ill get my coat.

i was but i keep gettign outbid on ebay and have seen some of these things for £10 on ebay new so was thinking! And plus its only for two years then when i can  drive i will probably spend and have a bit more money. I dont really know what i need, just need a cheap set of muds so i can go offroading and a bit of road driving untill im 17!

I had 7.50x16 SAG crossplys on my Series III trials truck.. They were fantastic off road and hilarious on road, especially in the wet.  I amused two police officers in Daventry one Sunday morning by 'powersliding' a Series three round a roundabout with the tail hanging out at 15 miles an hour.

The SAG stands for Super All Grip and they sure do.  Provided great traction on all surfaces and in mud. worked a treat, useless on wet tarmac.

At ten quid new I'd go for them - they are cheap and good off road. I ran them on my RR and series and they were fine on road and would climb out of ruts better than most. I can't recall why I changed them in the end, there was a logic to it but I can't recall what it was. Possibly they're not so good in quarries.

I currently run SATs (super all traction) as my off road tyres and they do exactly as they say on the side wall however..

Check the speed rating, chances are your 90 will go a lot faster than the tyres.

Being 6 ply cross plys they don't flex as mush as a radial even whe aired down, this has itas advantages (stronger side walls) and disadvatages (not much of an are increase when aired down) compared to radials.

Another advantage of the SATs (i expect SAGs are the same) is that when the tread gets low the are suitable for recutting to increase the tread height.

That's it - that's why I got rid of the SAG, the speed rating was wrong for the RR.

That said they worked very well indeed and the radials may have higher speed rating.

I run SAG's on and off road. do about 100 road miles a week on em. they howl a bit and at 80 on the motorway everything shakes. oh and they wear pretty quickly. but theyre not too bad. theyre ok off road and have never really let me down.

Remember that these are also pretty small tyres - 7.50/16s are real skinny and not that tall. If your mates are all running 235/85/16 and up tyres, you'll end up a stuck in the mud (boom, boom!).

Having said that... used to run them on my SIII many years ago - good tyre - cheap and better in the rough than a standard MT but not a patch on a Simex/Grizzley/INSA IMHO... but I remember doing monster tail slides in 2 wheel drive on tarmac, as mentioned above! Great fun!!!!

7.50 have the same diameter as 235/85 (or near as damn it),so height isn't an issue really. And being narrow can have its advantages. They are remarkable good offroad and at £10 a corner you can't go wrong.

Agree with the logic about the width and certainly the price! But personally I've ran 750s and 235/85s back to back and the latter are defo a fair bit taller (though I guess to some extent it depends on the make). But as you say, at a tenner a corner...

x ply sags are huge, 32 inch easily, as tall as my 235/85 bridgestones, my mate runs a worn set and they are very good offroad.

Weird - I used to run Mud Pluggas 7.50 SATS (made in Wales I think) - they were just shy of 31", a fair bit smaller than a 235/85/16 BFG.  :?  I guess different makes have different sizes. Certainly I know that (for example) 265/75/16s in different makes can be massively different - the Insas I run now are huge compared with, say, Conway MTs of the same size. Ho hum. In any case, as I said, at a tenner a corner...

I used to run Deestone Xtra grip tyres on my old 110... they ware very similar to SAG's, I think they we a copy of firestone SATs...

They were Awesome in the mud, the tread pattern was brilliant.
If only they did it in other sizes, rather than just 7.50 x 16, I'd have them on my Disco tomorrow, but 7.50's are a bit skinny for a disco.....

They are a copy of the Goodyear Xtra Grip, not as good as a SAT/SAG imho i have them on my Series, they are for sale actually lol.

Ok so in 'thoery' they are the same diameter. Sizes do vary considerably, my 235/85r16 are nearly 33".

Let me quess, are those retreads??

Most retreads come bigger than a new tyre particuarly the more agressive tread patterns.

yeah they are retreads, maxi 3ds (so pretty damn agressive).

If you can get sags for £10 quid a corner, by a set and get them cut straight away, makes for an awesome tyres (not sure about legal point of view thought).
