I've got a knocking coming from the front end when going over bumps. I've looked underneath and it all seems ok, nothing loose. What could it be?

When you say knocking , do you mean a single knock for each lump or bump in the road or a multiple bumping . Have you checked the condition of all the rubbers on the front end . I am thinking anti-role bar bushes or something like .
-
seems to be a single knock, all the bushes appear ok, I can't move anything by hand when I go underneath.

Am I right in thinking its McPhearson struts at the front and leafs at the back ? I recently had a front knock that sounds like yours , I changed the strut and the noise was gone ( now I can hear all the other noises  ). Easy job , less than an hour . Let me know if you need more info .

Cheers CANADA AL, I'll check that out.

mcphearson struts on an XJ  :smack:
coils & damper, live axle, leafs on the back
It could be anything
lying underneath it wont replicate the noise.
It could be:
shock bushes
upper tca buhes
lower tca bushes
anti roll bar bushes
anti roll bar link bushes
trackbar ball joint, upper, the axle end is a bush, try tightening it up
steering ball joints
upper steering knuckle swivel ball joints

Just a 2" budget lift. I went laning with a machanic friend today. He thinks it's the anti-roll bar link bushes, So I'll start with them and then carry on down daggies list till the knocking stops. Thanks guys for all your advice.
