Title: Range Rover speedo fault
Post by: Ady427 on May 13, 2006, 07:54:30
Hi folks,  just wondering if anybody has any ideas where the fault may be in the rangie speedo,  it won't tell me how fast I am going, it is more content just to sit their and wave at me.  I took the cable out the dash end and it seems ok, took the car down the road, the cable goes round, it also operates the mileometer fine,  just no speedo. ???   Thanks in advance for anybodys help .

The probelm most likely is in the dash unit then, the quickest/easiest way to cure this is a new unit, however at £75 - £100 pounds its might not be the cheapest if the old unit can be fixed. Other places might bo them cheaper but a quick web hunt brought up these 2 for a price guide.

Ps. I am assuming it was on older classic that is giving you this problem.

I've had it on other cars, it is worth trying a new cable. They can look good and still jump, a lot less dosh and efort than a new speedo.

I would go for the cable as well. Mine did the same thing and about 2 weeks later the cable broken. New cable and it works great again now

If the odometer is working but the speedo isn't, then the fault is most likely in the head unit as mentioned.  If nothing works, or it all works intermittently  then the cable is more likely.

Plenty of RRs being broken, so a replacement shouldn't be hard to find.
