When I was buying one I was told to go for a sip 130 turbo, however I'm having trouble with controlling the wire feed mechanism, It seems a bit flimsy to me, but then again, perhaps they're all like that

get gas, its alot cheaper in the long run, wire wise

a gasless mig requires a flux wire to form a barrier around the weld, this means when you come to replace the wire it costs 45 pound for a kilogram roll

cheaper to get the gas welder as a 5 kilo roll is only 15 ish pounds

Do you guys using Gas mig welders use the expensive mini-bottles you find for them or are you on 1/2 or full size welding bottles??

Cheap mix welders car make you rip your hair out, for a reasonable setup that you will want to use agian then be prepaird to spend some money.

CO2 gas will do, but CO2/argon mix is much better. For best results you will also need the right % blend depening on the thickness of the material you are weling, though i've found a general purpose mix give acceptible results in all conditions.

If you just want to do a few small repairs then the small bottles arn't too bad compared to rental.

Cheap SIPs have notorious feed mechanisms

I've heard good reports for both sealley and clarke (machine mart) welders.

It is possible to get pub gas bottles refiled with CO2/argon but i'm not sure whether most places will do this, BOC work on a cylinder exchange system for refills.

Regards wire, I only use 0.8mm which will weld just about anything. If your welding a lot of very thin metal then 0.6mm wire is better but a pain to feed down long torch cables as if found out at my own expense (serves me right for having a nice long 4m tourch cable).
