Title: Transfer box
Post by: zacjake on January 21, 2006, 16:54:34
Will a Discovery V8 gearbox fit a LT77 2.5 n/a transfer box. This because the gear change levers are different. This to fit in my 1986 90.
Thanks  :?:

I don't think it will, IIRC the LT77's fitted to the V8's have a longer mainshaft than the ones for the diesels.
If this is the case then you'd need to either move the engine forwards or the gearbox & transfer box back to make it fit.
You would also need a longer flywheel housing and change the proshafts.

If I'm wrong then I'm sure someone will let you know.

It souldn't be too hard to find a good LT77 from a diesel, there are more of them around than there are V8 versions.  :D

Sorry I forgot to mention, the V8 disco box is needed for my engine change. Will the transfer box from my 2.5 diesel fit the disco gearbox?

righto

v8 box onto v8 engine yes
v8 box onto any 4 or 5 cylinder = no
vice versa - no
any lt230 transfer box onto any r380 or lt77 box yes but check the final drive ratios are what you want

Thanks,
The gearbox ratios on the disco box should be higher? The gearbox is being used to fit a Nissan SD33 Turbo engine.Has anyone done this conversion?
