Title: Soft Dash door lock
Post by: chizy on September 25, 2010, 00:29:14
Been a while since I posted on here, the old girl has been behaving til today.

Fob has never worked since I had the Rangie, have always used the key - locks all the doors/tailgate,sets alarm etc all spot on. Unlocks,de-activates alarm etc lovely.

Now when I put the key in the door, there is no resistance either way, no lock unlock. Doesn't spin right round, just it's normal half turn.  :-.

Any suggestions?

The plastixc thingy round the door lock can split in two, PITA.

Try new batteries in the fob and re=program it.  If you lock with the key the alarm doesn't use ultrasonic and isn't as well protected.  However if you lock with the fob then loose it you need a new alarm, best to have 2 fobs just in case.

Heater blower, go on do tell.

It wouldn't be turning itself off would it, or not running at top speed by any chance?

Just stopped working last week. Even top speed would be good.......

Weird thing is,that a couple o' days earlier when going from position 3 to 4 it stopped for a moment then came on

What do you reckon Blues?

Switch I think, mine is the same.  If you jer jer jiggle it sometimes it might work.  there's also a funny relay on the heater blower that does something clever.  You'll also find the speed control resister under the blower motor box in the passeneger footwell, it sits in the airflow to keep it cool.  The resistor is not renowned for failing, I think it's the switch.

I bought a switch from the bay which never arrived, it's on the long list of "to do", the list that keeps getting longer and seems to have had "replace gearbox" at the top for a very long time.

Did the jiggly thing before it finally stopped

So you reckon switch rather than resistor?

Looks like I'm going to do the elimination route just like my ABS!

The joys of a soft dash  ;)

Yes I think it's the switch because it's so sensitive to touch as it starts to fail.

Hey Blues, here's an update.

Changed the switch and still nothing. Admitted defeat and took to auto electrician (Banbury Autos Ltd) and now sorted, have all 4 speeds of blower.

Problem? Corrosion in wiring behind dash. John Boy has worked his magic and rewired.

Much happiness  :D
