Title: P38 locked out
Post by: automania on October 21, 2009, 06:25:34
Dads p38 was left for a week or so and it went flat. On Sunday I jump started it and left it running a while then went for a drive. Now yesterday I went to it and it wouldn't unlock on the remote, been in to get the spare and tha same happening. Thing is if I open it with the key will the alarm go off an I won't be able to stop it? And how do I get the car to recognise the keys again? Typically the manual is inside the car! Cheers mike

Hi Mike
I had the same problem but luckly I had the manual in the house and the previous keeper had put the codes in the book.
Im not sure where to get the codes from but some one on here will probably beable to help.
Once you have the code it is pretty simple.

Best of luck
Paul

has it got tinted windows?
you could just unlock it, get the book, pop the hood and disconect the battery then lock all doors manualy

P38s can run the battery down in a few days due to external radio interference "waking up" (but not setting off) the alarm.  It's suprisingly common in e.g airport carparks, but now happening in driveways on unmodified cars ...
Perhaps a neighbour has got a new wireless gizmo.

There is/was available an updated alarm part to reduce susceptibility, or if you hunt around there are reports of disconnecting an aerial somewhere to reduce sensitivity.
