Title: CB WOES
Post by: barriesheene on January 11, 2008, 21:14:38
Hi guy's and gals(didi)  ;)
I'm off playing in a disused quarry on the weekend (sunday) So I decided to get myself a swr meter for the cb cos it's never been great to be honest  Turns out that with the gutter mount i cant get the reading out of the red on rev,And with the mag mount it's only just coming out of the red. Seem's bad earth plane is to blame  What's the best way you guys have found to solve this ? I've tried on the bonnet, sunroof and gutterings with no change in readings ? Any idea's ?

Possibly an faulty earth on the patch leads ??/
If you've tried two antennae, that would be my next thing to look at ..........

What's a patch lead ??? Is that the lead from the ant to the swr to the cb ?

run a good earth to the aerial mounting. & try again.  If that works you will need to scratch the paint off the gutter so you are getting a good earth...or run a permanent earth to it  ;)

TBH if the ariel cables are made up properly then the earth plane shouldn't be a problem, mine isn't.  I know the ally roof doesn't help but there is enough steel in the frame to make a good earth.

I have my guttter mount above the rear door and I managed to get a SWR above 2 (or is that below, better than anyway) though when I check it now I don't get a reading, I think the SWR meter has hit the dashboard one too many times now.
