Thought the P38 still used a viscous fan for rad?  :?
So I think they COULD be

Sounds like the condenser fans to me, the P38 uses a viscous fan for the cooling of the rad (and then switches those condenser fans on when the engine is getting really warm or when the HeVAC ECU needs them on for the A/C).  They fit on the front of the rad (or if you had a P38, on the front of the condenser) and blow towards the engine if that makes sense

On the P38 the fans are the the furhtest thing forward other than the trim panels. Odds are though that you could reverse the power connections if you wanted to and make them spin the other way.
