Title: Vibration
Post by: Yoshi on May 21, 2007, 20:46:02
I have a vibration coming through the floor and the steering wheel when coasting or decelerating.

Does anyone know what it could be?

Try looking at propshaft joints first, but could be one of a whole host of things, CV's, diff bearings, gearbox rear bearings. But start with the easy one could just ned a good greasing of the prop joints or replacing them.

Well gave em a greasing, took 2 compressions of the doofer before it was coming out, didnt make any difference, but we couldnt turn the prop at all.  Its only happening on deceleration or where i am trying to keep a constant speed, when i am accelerating its fine.

Need to get a propshaft tool first though as trying to remove the propshaft today was impossible lol

Front prop is off and its still causing bother!!  Getting a noise like the bearings squeeking but checked them and they are suitably greased and i didnt need to change them, so need to find out before 4pm tomorrow what it is!

Ok, its now been suggested it could be the panhard rod bushes, how do i check these before having to remove the panhard rod???

easiest done with 2 people.

One person turns the steering wheel to and throw, whalst the other peson looks at the panhard rod relative to the axle and chassis mounts looking for any movement.

It they spot pretty much any monement then the bushes will need replacing.

There was no movement whatsoever, land rover say this leads them to believe it could be the steering damper,so i have a new one here ready to fit (dont worry, i didnt pay the £50 + Vat that land rover wanted)!!

Is it lifted? sounds like front drivetrain pulsing to me.

It is lifted, but its only just started doing it over the past few weeks, but we think it might be the cv joint as i lost alot of the gunk out of the swivel housing, so am replacing that today and praying it fixes the problem!
