This brought back memories, can anyone else ID the role of this RR?

Would it be one of the SAS 2 doors that they used?

You got it! I used to work in the British Army team that had to monitor SOXMIS patrols and detain them when they ventured off their authorised routes back in the late 80's so we met the BRIXMIS guys a few times. They're cars were superb with lights that could be selected that imitated other East German cars etc and also had total black out settings! Oh and massive long range tanks. I never saw a RR, during my time all they ever seemed to use (BRIXMIS) were Senators.

good guess then, SOXMIS was a bit before my time, didn't get to Germany til 93 but had all the briefings in training in 91 plus I expect some quality SSVC videos!
-
just remembered, when I first got to Germany I got stuck on AMP's. One of the areas we had to patrol was the old SOXMIS houses in Bunde which had by then been taken over and used as pads for all the DIV staff officers from Herford.
BAOR gave it away

Ah yes, I recall them! I was on duty in JHQ the night the garrison Sgt's mess was bombed, put the windows of the duty room in, not a pleasant night!
-
God they bring back memories :)

The best resource would be the BRIXMIS association website, SOXMIS was the Russian opposition.

The PowerPoint Brief (http://www.brixmis.co.uk/documents/90.html) is a good introduction showing the BRIXMIS Ops and Vehicles.
