Hi a friend of mine has a 1.8 K series freelander and it looks like head gasket has gone. losing coolant and smoking badly does anyone know what the best repair for this as far as I know it has not got too hot he stopped it before it got that far, he took it into a garage and they are talking new engine etc etc so has anyone done a head gasket on one of these and was it a successful repair?
Cheers for any help

mine went on the motorway in france, but I managed to stop in time.We were recovered back to UK and it was repared by a local garage using an upgraded laminated gasket for about £500.The mechanic did say that if I hadnt stopped it could have caused severe probs such as warped head. They can only tell by taking the head off and having a look inside.The£500 bill included new gasket new head bolts and a new timing belt and pully
