Title: Fuse, indicators
Post by: Bob696 on September 09, 2004, 17:39:25
The fuse in my 200TDi that protects the flasher unit, fuel indicator and temerature bulb and the stop lights keeps popping. No rhyme or reason for it. It can last 5 miles or 25 miles.

The guys at the garage will fix it but I cant get to them until saterday.

anybody know what to check from experience and save me the trip?

btw the haynes manual says it is a 5 amp but the diagram on the fuse cover says 10 amp. I have been using 10 Amps.

Cheers

A few pointers off the top of me head...

Remove all the indicators one by one and check the connections are good and clean.
Ditto with the brake and any other lights.

Have you got a tow socket fitted? Could be something in there causing the problem?

Hope it helps!

Cheers for that. One of the indicators showed corrosion around the screw on the earth connection but the connector was otherwise spotless. Cleaned it off.

The tow socket is fitted and despite it looking very clean I think the fault might be there (when you indicate the first 'flash' also lights up the tow light). Might also be the flasher unit I suppose.

Have to see if the fuse survives tomorrow. If it does it was probably that rusty screw

The tow light should flash once without a trailer plugged in, that's perfectly normal.

Does that mean mine's up the shoot then? Only time mine flashes without the trailer is when you hit the hazard switch.

Mine (on the Disco) always flashes the trailer light on the first flash. After that it only flashes the trailer light again if the trailer is attached.
