Title: 2" lift. Dumb question number 1
Post by: Bob696 on August 29, 2005, 13:35:46
OK got all the bits sorted and just about to take one of the shocks off.

BUT

I cant remember wether the short springs go on the back or on the front

I also wonder if I should be doing this myself

Hi Bob
I've just fitted a 2" lift to my 90.
If yours are the same as mine, the shorter (heavier gauge) springs go on the front

Just to add a bit of confusion... on a 90, the front offside spring is usually about 1/2" - 1" longer than the nearside when uncompressed.

[!Expletive Deleted!], why is nothing ever simple

I have 2 pairs of springs 1 pair is 418mm and the other is about 450mm.

Given up for the night as I need some spring compressors.

The blue Bearmach 2" lift springs aren't "sided".

Front off side tyre might need a bit more air.

The "tester" did his best but it failed on a dodgy indicator, a ripped wiper blade & an insufficiently inflated tyre. And I also forgot the washer fluid.
Oh [!Expletive Deleted!]!!! I should've listened to you boys!!!!

Land Rover strike again

Went out this morning and got a new shock turret securing ring ..... gave the other car back to the wife ...... and discovered the damn studs are imperial not metric. Had to wait for the wife to come back home on a lunch break ... drive her back to work and then go and get some damned nuts to fit.

Those mounting rings are s**t.  I fitted 2 new ones along with new shockers a couple of months back.  This weekend I fitted a pair of HD turrets from Paddocks and the bolts sheared off whilst I was trying to retighten them.  I think they are made of cheese!

Anyway, Paddocks now do a HD mounting ring, made using 4 countersunk bolts rather than the spot-welded poo of the OE parts.  the b****ers are still imperial though!
