my LN105 single cab hilux p/u has 31 x 10.5 R15`s on.
stock is 215 r 16s
plans are to get an additional o/e set of 16`s and fit some big knobbly tyres..
what is the 16 inch equivalent to the 31`s (and bigger..)? thinking landrover tyres too as an option due to the narrow but tall tyres/availability - more bite in mud!
suggestions are aprechiated
-
Nearest to a 31/10.50 r15 will be 265/75 r16. The tall narrow ones on Landys are usually 7.50 r16 or like mine 235/85 r16.

*gets calculater out*
so whats your opinion? hilux isnt the most stable of beasts, and would probly benefit form the 265`s on road, but 235`s will digg in better.... ah, descisions!
any good prices on muds for either size? :D
-
Colway M/T are about £50 a corner and will grip well enough for an old Hilux. 235/85 is a good size if it will fit, won't be a problem on the road handling wise i wouldn't have thought. Certainly the 90 handles fine on 'em. My Truck will be at the next Pub Meet if ya wanna see how big they are.
I dont have Colway though. They are cheaper and better than my Bridgestones.
-
hmm, might be needing some a bit sooner than the pub meet unfortunatley ?(last mm on o/s/rear!) so probly go for some 31 10.5`s and see how the ££ situation is early next year. even the missus said it could do with some bigger wheels! :D
-
yeah, gunna look for the 235`s in the new year, e-bay watchin!
any recomendations on bargain A/T`s?
gave £65 for a "runway enduro" in 31/10.5 r15, seems fairly chunky! apparently remoulds are on back order til mid jan!
-
Mark Sowden in Drigh' is very cheap on Colway/Greenway.

-
yeah, been looking on there and probly worth a trip over, if anyone else wants to make an order it might be worth a trip down (plus bulk discounts?)
-
oh, now enter into the equation 33x12.5/15 greenway machos at £56 a corner! :D
*shakes head*
-
Not sure how a mega wide tyre will handle on the Road with you having no weight over the back axle anyway.
-
yeah, theres three sizes in review at the mo:
235/85/16 - possibly a bit thin, may fold a lot under hard cornering (like that will happen!)
265/75/16 - mix of both
33/12.5/16 plenty of girth, as you say... could effect braking/stability.
ah, much confusion!
-
265/75/16 will be fine trust me they are quite wide and tall they wont fold unless u buy a crap make or have um at the wrong pressure
-
I have heard that 265/75/16 maybe too big, comments on the hiluxsurf forum about them fouling the mudflaps and catching the bumper end stops.
I've got 31x10.5 R15 on mine and it's fine (and looks nice too :D )
Another source of Colways is http://www.tyresdirectuk.co.uk/
Can't remember if mine came from sowden or tyres direct, but one of them offers free shipping on a purchase of 5 tyres, means you get the 5th one at about half price (which is lucky for me as crap tracking has knackered one of them!).
Smeg.

seem to have two threads on this subject! lol
http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?t=16178
..cant see mudflap fouling been a problem, i lost one at whitworth, and cant see th other stopping on much longer anyway! plus H/D springs mean its fairly clear.
its on 31 x 10.5`s at the mo. looks ok but would take bigger!
what rim width would be advised for the 265/75`s? :D
will a scrapyard special be ok (standard p/u rims.. or maybe surf/4runner steels?)
-
i have seen 265 on rostyle which is 6.5 but they looked pinched, i would say 8 ideally, maybe get away with 7.
-
33/12.50 macho's are like rocking horse poop.
go 33/12.50 kumhos
-
still need a set of 16`s and TBH beginning to think the camac AT`s might be adequate enough at the mo....
will see what happens!
