Title: Rear Knock
Post by: Big Rich on June 24, 2004, 12:33:11
I had a bit of a rattle and a knocking sound from the rear of my disco I changed the ball joint on the upper link arms that stoppet the knock and most of the rattle but over potholes I still get a small amount of the rattle.

Has anyone had problems like this and do you know how to stop it?

Did you change the A-Frame bushes when you did the ball joint ?   It's a good bet (if they haven't been done recently) that if the joint had gone, they will be worn too.

I changed all the bushes on the disco about a month ago fo polybushes (Red).

The new ones seem okay. The sound I can here is like a bolt loose but I had a look and they all seem tight.

if its a light knock/rattle over small bumps it could be shockers- check them for tightness and bushes (that is if u havenet changed them in the PBush set u got.)

Thanks I hadn't thought of that I will check both the shockers and the retainers. The shock's have poly on the bottom and the rubber I got with the Koni's as the polybush dosn't fit.

I will let you know the outcume later. Fingers crossed 8)

Hi Rich

Might be worth checking the radius arm nuts on both sides - mine started knocking a bit when off roading - didn't notice  the nut was coming undone - result = a lot of damage when the axle went AWOL.

Have a look at the exhaust mount I dinked mine on a lane near home and for days I had a slight rattle form the back I had split a rubber so the pipe was bouncing more than normal causing the noise. (Might help) :D

My knoi shocks are as tight as I can go (end of the threads). They still seem a little loose. Is it wise to put a washer in to pack it out? I also cant get the nut off the end. Any ideas? :?
