Title: Help me understand
Post by: Loki on April 12, 2004, 17:31:40
After getting my sechond hand Landrover Discovery 95 mdl. I am faced with all the after market products available. In reading the manual that came with the car it says when 4wheeling to use the hi and low gears of the transfer case but when the road/track is slippery it says to move the transfer case lever over to the locked position. I assume here I have locked my front and rear diffs and they act as one unit. So the power will be spread equally amoung all 4 tyres. If this is the case purchasing an ARB air locker or detroit locker is pointless. Am I correct in this thinking? :?:

The diff they are refering to is the one in the center.  When "locked" this will apply equal power to the front and rear axles.  Both of these axles have diffs on them as well.

A detroit, or ARB locker replaces a front or rear diff (usually the rear) allowing this one to be locked also.

See what buying a disco does for you.
Darren is now officially a disco owner, and overnight he has fallen *in love.*
Good for you Darren.
Discovery, the thinking mans defender, you know it makes sense.
