Title: Nato hook

How strong is the bumper on a 200 tdi, thinking on the mods needed to attach a nato tow hook onto it.

I know the rear crossmember runs very close to the bumper, the Camel Discoverys had the Dixon-Bate hitch bolted through the bumper onto the member.

Might be worth asking someone via this link how it was perfomed at the factory;

Or Scorpian racing produce a replacement high strength bumper, Thrasher (Neil) has got one, plus a couple of others

The standard towbar fits with two bolts that go down through the cross member. The bumper itself (if I recall correctly is only held on by 4 small bolts nearer the end of the bumper.

Scorpions bumper bolts on using the standard mounts as well as a bracket that bolts through the towbar mounts.

You're welcome to have a look at mine. I've got some photos taken as the job was being done.

Haven't you got a towbar on the Disco Kev? The NATO hotch should bolt to that.

I've got a standard towbar and NATO hitch if you need either of them.

Thanks Ed
got a tow bar on the disco but for a sankey the ride height will be too low, & the bolts look like they have been on there from new.
Gonna take another look tomorrow, but short term its easier to wire in a socket onto the lightweight for now, & use my light board

Might drop round tomorrow pm if you are in after I've finished at my Fathers round the corner from you, bout 3ish

I had the very same problem i had a word with a local tow bar company. They said you are not supposed to raise a tow bar, only lower it. but in this case the stength of the disco tow bar it was not a problem. So i had made a similer thing to the dixon plate whitch fits on the original tow bracket by four bolts, but lifts not drops the hitch. So i can remove it when not in use or replace with standard tow ball. word of warning thought you can only go so far messure carefully because of the rear door opening. I also have a 2" lift so it now sits spot on. :D
