Title: 4WD selection problems
Post by: lucky on April 11, 2007, 12:21:53
Hi all,

Now at last i have my Cherokee, but still have not been off road because i am having trouble with my transfer box :(

I tried to select full time 4WD but the dash only showed part time 4WD even though the leaver was in the full time postion  :?

so the I tried to get back in to 2WD as i was on a dry road ( i know, not the best place to try out a new transfer box !! ) Now i could not get it back into 2WD!!

luckily i was on a long straingh but of road. Anyway i tried all the normal stuff, accelerating then braking etc. when i braked hard the part time light went out but came back on. In the end there was a bang and it went into 2WD

I have not deared try it again yet so ( once more !! ) any help or advice is much appreciated

Many Thanks

sounds to me like your jeep is suffering from "sainsburys syndrome" in other words its never been used in anything but 2wd until you got it!!

this is a fairly frequent problem with jeeps, basically, the more you use it, the better it will get!!!

No just forward....wanted to avoid congestion so drove through a hedge...not PC but saved fossil fuels for future use...

I thought as much, i will find some easy green lanes and keep playing with the selector.

was just concerned about the transfer box getting stuck in part time 4WD so i then could not drive home.

I like the term sainsbury syndrome  :D  will have to remember that one
and yes i did try reversing it t get it back into 2WD

thanks again for your advice

I had that when first got mine................rock'd it back and fourth (reverse to drive) a couple of feet at a time until engaged!............then leave it in 4wd for week or two, you'll need to do this a few times until it works ok.
